The 24,552-sf Ultimate Sports Arena, on Structural Drive near 22 Mile and Gratiot, opened earlier this month and is hosting a grand opening event today. The business is owned and operated by Wayne and Colleen Wickersham and Walt and Darlene Lashley. The building features a regulation-size hardwood basketball court and a court area that can be configured for one or two volleyball courts or another basketball court. The volleyball area has a special "sport"-style flooring installed.
The property is owned by Vincent and Sara Palazzolo. Grubb & Ellis team members John Arthurs and Bob Pagano represented the lessors. Macomb County has several other indoor-sports facilities, but none are located in the northeast area of the county, home to rapid population growth over the last several years.
"I know last year, some other ladies and I were looking for a place to play volleyball, and the closest we could find was Royal Oak," Darlene Lashley says. "That's just farther than we wanted to have to drive on a weekly basis."
