International Barrier Technology makes proprietary fire resistant building materials for both the residential and commercial markets. The new line will help it ramp up production of its commercial modular applications, increase production efficiency, and allow it to expand into new markets in the western US.
The company's products are coated with a non-toxic, non-combustible material called Pyrotite that releases water when exposed to the heat of fire. The technology has potential application to engineered wood products, paint, plastics, and expanded polystyrene. The company acquired the Pyrotite technology last year. Last week, the company reported sales of $4.4 million for the fiscal year ending June 30, a 44% increase over the previous year. The company sold some 5.14 million sf of building materials, a 53% increase from the previous year.
