ATLANTA-Atlantic Station, a 138-acre, $2-billion mixed-use redevelopment in Midtown previously honored by various national groups for its redevelopment of a once-contaminated brownfield, today has added another citation to its mantle of awards.

The Washington, DC-based US Green Building Council has awarded its Silver Certification in the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design to the $75-million, 500,000-sf 171-71st Street Building, Atlantic Station’s first constructed office property. The 12-year-old, 5,400-member, 67-chapter council has designated only 82 buildings nationally as LEED-certified since its inception in 1993.

“While originally attracted to this site to clean up an urban brownfield, our partnerships have allowed us to learn a great deal and take the mixed-use development to the next level of sustainable design and construction,” says Jim Jacoby, chairman of locally based Jacoby Development Inc. Atlantic Station is being co-developed by Jacoby and New York-based AIG Global Real Estate Investment Corp.
