$250M Luxury Resort Underway

DEL MAR, CA-Groundbreaking begins on a $250 million luxury resort and spa featuring a 261-room hotel, 50,000-sf clubhouse and 39 ownership villas spanning over 380 acres. Completion is set for January 2007.

DEL MAR, CA-Construction has begun on the $250 million Grand Del Mar Resort & Spa located on the grounds of the Grand Golf Club located 20 minutes outside of San Diego. A million-dollar renovation of its golf course is also underway, along with the construction of a new clubhouse. The 380-acre plot of land is located on the Penasquitos Canyon Preserve. The resort will feature a luxury hotel and spa, 39 ownership villas and a clubhouse. The replacement clubhouse will be the first parcel of the year-and-a-half project to be finished, with an estimated completion date of June 2006. At 45,000 sf, the clubhouse is triple the size of the original structure and will offer a restaurant, locker rooms, patios, and a pro shop.The five-star hotel will consist of 261 rooms, including 19 suites averaging 610 sf and 3,000 sf, respectively. Amenities include a café, cocktail lounge, libraries, wine rooms, shops, patios, lounges, in-door and outdoor fireplaces. The 4-bedroom 4-bath ownership villas will average 4,000 sf. The resort’s full-service 16,000-sf spa and fitness center will include a full-service salon, a lap pool, outdoor spa and relaxation area, a fitness room, yoga and aerobics studios and a spa boutique. In addition, there will be 12 massage rooms, facial treatment rooms, hydrotherapy rooms and specialty treatment and relaxation rooms, with shower, steam, and sauna areas and a plunge pool. The buildings at the Grand Del Mar Resort & Spa will feature incorporate architectural influences from Addison Mizner, whose regional Mediterranean style launched the Florida Renaissance and defined the resort communities of Palm Beach and Boca Raton. Doug Manchester is the developer of the project and owns the Manchester Grand Hyatt San Diego, San Diego Marriott Hotel and Marina and the Whitetail Club in McCall, ID.
