J. Michael Davis, president and CEO for National City bank in Michigan, says the bank signed a long-term lease to use approximately 82,000 sf in the 25-story building and will occupy offices on the first, 14th, 15th, 24th and 25th floors, accommodating more than 300 employees. The top floor will be used as a private banking center.

The move is to be completed by the fall, at which time the building will be renamed and National City's logo will be added to all three sides of the triangular-shaped building.

"This comprehensive campaign to move our Michigan headquarters to Top of Troy is a reflection and projection of the size and depth of our organization," Davis says. "This site will be a dramatic, visible presence for us in Southeastern Michigan."

In addition to the move inside the building, National City will also lease a 3,500-sf building in the main building's north parking lot, fronting West Big Beaver Road, to open a full-service branch.

"This is an exciting time for Top of Troy--the new National City Center--and we welcome National City to the building," says David Haboian, senior vice president of brokerage with Kojaian Cos., which owns the building. "One of the largest banks in the country, with a state headquarters in our facility, adds a special vibrancy to our building and certainly much stature for our organization."

With National City's move, the building will undergo both external and internal renovations, Haboian says. National City also announced that in the next several months the bank will move its Downtown Detroit office at 333 Fort St. to a new 15,000-sf location on the 16th floor at Kojaian-owned One Woodward Ave., also in the Downtown Detroit area. National City has 120 branches in the five county area of southeastern Michigan and has initiated a $25-million branch expansion program over the next two years. The bank currently employs more than 2,000 people in this area.
