"It became apparent to me that I needed to expand my platform to stay competitive," McKenzie tells GlobeSt.com. "From time to time, I had been approached by national firms and was impressed with Equis' platform."

McKenzie, named a senior vice president, and his assistant both joined Equis. He says talks began with the Chicago-based firm in March. "In the midst of all these real estate brokerage firms consolidating, Equis is one of few that provides un-conflicted real estate services," he explains.

With more than 35 years of real estate experience in office leasing and building representation, McKenzie will focus on servicing his existing clients and bringing in new one for Equis. He will report to Bill Wolff, senior vice president and manager in Houston. "I've known Tom for over 25 years," Wolff says. "In fact, I was Tom's first employee when he launched his own firm."

Wolff tells GlobeSt.com that he believes McKenzie is one of the most successful and well-liked commercial real estate professionals in the Houston market. "I think he will bring energy, humor and maturity to this office," he says, adding Equis plans to add two to three more producers to the eight-member team in Houston.
