Most employment listings—online and in print—lack the specificity that most jobseekers want, explains Susan H. Kane, director of sales for the locally based jobsite. "Typically, candidates would do a search and come up with 5,000 jobs that were considered real estate jobs but weren't streamlined to this specific industry," she says.
The frustration is shared by employers who "might get flooded with resumes that lacked the necessary qualifications," Kane continues. "Now, employers and candidates have a niche marketplace where they can go. It's geared to candidates who are inside the industry, so prospective employers can feel comfortable that they're receiving qualified resumes from people who already have real estate experience."
Forming the basis of the new initiative is a series of exclusive agreements with 10 of the largest associations in the industry: BOMA, NMHC, ULI, PREA, SIOR, CCIM, RICS and CMSA as well as Nareit and Naiop.
Kane explains that the strategy allows an industrial-sector firm, for instance, to announce a position on the Naiop postings page, which is powered by SelectLeaders. The listing would also be shared by the other associations. (Through an agreement with GlobeSt.com, the posting will also appear on the news website.)
The initiative is destined to get a lot of traffic, considering SelectLeaders' numbers to date. Kane reports that the company is currently servicing some 1,535 real estate firms on both a one-off and contracted basis. "Prospective employees have hit the website to the tune of about 1.6 million so far in 2005," she adds.
