The official opening of the building caps a two-year relocation process for the automotive powertrain manufacturer. BorgWarner announced in September 2003 that it would relocate its corporate headquarters from Chicago to Auburn Hills. The new headquarters houses 80 corporate employees including the chairman and CEO'soffice, finance and administration, business development, corporate communications and investor relations, human resources, information technology and legal/patent division.

"The establishment of our world headquarters in Metro Detroit is a milestone in BorgWarner's long and distinguished history," said Tim Manganello, BorgWarner chairman and CEO in a statement. "BorgWarner strives to make its mark on the auto industry through global powertrain innovation and good community citizenship. Our new headquarters provides an inspiring setting in which to do so."

A highlight of the new headquarters is the BorgWarner Midwest Art Collection, which the company acquired from 1943 to 1986. The collection is designed to evoke an atmosphere of creativity among those who work around it by fostering new ways of seeing, feeling and thinking. All of the works are by Midwestern artists.
