DETROIT-The group working to redevelop the Detroit Riverfront will get $32 million in federal funds to boost their efforts. US Sen. Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow, both Michigan Democrats, inserted the funds into the recently approved Transportation Equity Act, known as TEA-21. The transportation-spending package includes $29 million for the West Riverfront greenways and $3 million for the East Riverfront, to be used by the Detroit Riverfront Conservancy.

The Conservancy has been working for two and a half years to redevelop and revitalize the riverfront in the three-mile stretch from the Ambassador Bridge, which connects Detroit to Windsor, Ontario, Canada, to the MacArthur Bridge, which connects the mainland toBelle Isle.
