ST. LOUIS-Panera Bread Co.’s year-over-year same-store sales soared 9.3% during its Q2, which ended July 26. Revenues jumped 33.1% to $140.2 million, due in large part to what executives say is the transition into sales of antibiotic-free chicken items.

During the quarter Panera opened 24 restaurants, 13 company-owned and 11 franchised. This quarter, the company will have less openings than anticipated, with nine, instead of the previously projected 31. Executives blamed the slowdown, in part, on the difficulty of finding good sites.
