ROYAL OAK, MI-bd's Mongolian Barbeque has opened a new flagship restaurant in its city of origin. The Ferndale-based chain has closed its original Royal Oak location and moved one block south, to 430 S. Main St. to open a new 5,900-sf, 185-seat restaurant.
"Our invasion of the new space in Royal Oak not only represents over $1 million of re-investment into the Royal Oak community, but also is a testament to our commitment to providing our customers with the best Mongolian dining experience," said Billy Downs, founder of bd's Mongolian Barbeque, in a statement.
Mongolian opened its first restaurant in Royal Oak in 1992. Mongolian, which has 28 locations nationally and 11 in Michigan, will add another store at 12 Mile Road and Gratiot in Roseville by the end of the year. The chain also runs a nonprofit restaurant in partnership with a youth job-training program in Mongolia.
With the move to the new location, the chain began offering three new services that will eventually be added to all of its restaurants: Carryout (Mongo To Go); appetizers; and free wireless Internet connection (Mongo Net).
