CMU Gets New Detroit-Area Home

TROY, MI-The university is leaving the Top of Troy building for a new location near Interstate 75. The new location will allow the university to forgo its previous above-market rent costs, while increasing signage visibility to Interstate 75.

TROY, MI-Central Michigan University in Troy has signed a lease for a new location for its metro Detroit’s main campus. The new location is near Maple Road and Interstate 75, at 1650 Research Dr.

Liberty Property Trust leased 22,000 sf to CMU over a 10-year lease term. The new building will house CMU’s library, classrooms, enrollment and management offices. CMU had been located in the Top of Troy building for the past 15 years. Besides needing building renovations, CMU was seeking to reduce its above-market rent costs, and increase signage visibility to I-75 in Troy, says Barbara Eaton, senior vice president of Equis’ Detroit office, who represented CMU in the transaction.
