District properties not currently in use include the former Tualatin Elementary campus, the site of a former administration building, some excess land associated with Fowler Middle School and one or more of the sites proposed for the new Tualatin Elementary.

A source at the school district tells GlobeSt.com that the school district likely will have to sell at least one of the sites. The most likely candidates for commercial construction are the site of the district's former administration building at 13137 SW Pacific Highway, which is about one acre, and the former Tualatin Elementary, which borders an apartment complex.

"The old admin building could be sold sooner," says the district source. "The old Tualatin Elementary is leased to tenants until next summer."

The district is considering the sales to make up about $3 million in cost overruns. The underestimations were related to projects at Alberta Rider Elementary, Tigard High School and Tualatin High School.
