MOUNT CLEMENS, MI-As a result of a growing workload, Mount Clemens-based precision grinding company Tru Tech Systems is adding a 100,000-sf addition to its existing Mount Clemens shop. The company is also adding more than 50,000 sf to a shop it owns in Lewiston in Northern Lower Michigan.
Two years ago, Mount Clemens-based Tru Tech had 69 employees. In 2004, that number was up to 80. Today, it is 115 and climbing both in Mount Clemens and in Lewiston. The company now leases eight neighboring buildings on North River Road, near Interstate 94 in Mount Clemens. The company said it will retain those buildings and will break ground next spring on the 100,000 sf two-story addition to its main building, which currently consists of about 100,000 sf. The new building will combine offices, shop space and research and development space. Currently, the company is nearing completion of its expansion in Lewiston.
The company's ultra-high precision grinding machines and production capabilities are in demand, prompting expansions locally and up north, execs say. Co-founder and vice president Shari Michels says a substantial part of the company's success is attributed to the fact that nearly 85% of the finished product made on Tru Tech equipment ends up in some type of medical device. Tru Tech declined to release annual revenue numbers, but Michels says sales grew 20% last year, keeping pace with the average 15% to 20% increase per year the company has experienced for the past several years.
