DETROIT-The United Food & Commercial Workers union, which represents workers in area grocery stores, says Farmer Jack is planning to close a Macomb Township store. Local 876 has told members it received notice from Farmer Jack parent company Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co. that the Macomb Township store on M-59 is one of four in Southeast Michigan that will be in the “first round” of store closings.

The other stores are in Clio, Flint Township and White Lake Township. The union says stores would remain open at least 30 days. The news came shortly after union members rejected a contract amendment request offer from Farmer Jack. The amendment, which would have cut wages by about 10%, was designed to help Farmer Jack’s parent company sell the chain to another company.
