CREW-Detroit said the eight-level, 636,000-sf William Beaumont Hospital South Tower addition won in the new construction category. It includes 432 inpatient bedsand 16 high-tech operating rooms. Palmer Commercial Services of Warren submitted the entry.

McCann Erickson Worldwide's Michigan headquarters, a renovation of the vacant Jacobson's department store, won in the redevelopment category. The 100,000-sf, three-level building features abundant glass and skylights and a second-floor outdoor terrace that can support the weight of a car. Turner Construction Co. of Detroit submitted the entry for the building, which houses about 300 employees.

The fourth annual competition was open to new construction and redevelopment projects completed between Jan. 1, 2004 and June 30, 2005. Each project had to involve at least one firm with a CREW member, said Laura Agabashian, the awards committee chair. Projects earned points for improving the surrounding community, being environmentally friendly and creatively using current materials, space and technology.
