GlobeSt.com UPDATE: President Approves BRAC Commission's List

WASHINGTON, DC-President Bush signs off on the Base Realignment and Closure Commission's list of recommendations. The number of major military bases to be closed is one-third less than the number of bases recommended for closure by the Defense Department and will result in a savings of $35.6 million over the next 20 years.

WASHINGTON, DC-President George W. Bush has approved the Base Realignment and Closure Commission’s recommendation for the closure of 22 major military installations. He has now sent the list to Congress for its approval or rejection.

The commission called for the full shuttering of 22 major bases and the realignment of 33 more, significantly cutting down the list that the US Department of Defense submitted in May, which specified the closing of 33 major bases and the reconfiguration of 29.
