Savvis currently operates 24 data centers encompassing more than 1.3 million sf around the world. Savvis chief executive Rob McCormick says his company is responding to strong demand.

"Our fully built-out data centers in the Silicon Valley are near capacity, and we continue to have new business opportunities," he says. "This center, which is near completion already, will play an important role in our continued growth in Silicon Valley."

Publicly held Savvis acquired the facility's long-term lease as part of its 2004 purchase of the assets of Cable & Wireless America. The company says it anticipates a total of $12 million to $14 million in capital expenditures related to the facility.

St. Louis-based Ascent Corp. is responsible for the completion of the facility, while another St. Louis company, Clayco, is the contractor for the fast-track project.
