Salvation Army Opens 67,000-SF Processing Center

HOUSTON-In the aftermath of two major hurricanes, the Salvation Army sets up a staging area in donated space at the Opus Fannin Center. The space is valued at roughly $6 per sf.

HOUSTON-In an effort to assist people impacted and displaced by Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the Salvation Army has launched a staging area in the 67,000-sf Building D, part of Opus Fannin Center, a 45-acre, 640,000-sf industrial park.

The Salvation Army will use the space at 9424 Fannin St. to process evacuees and then send them to other areas in the city to obtain food, shelter and other necessary items. The property, valued at about $6 per sf, was donated by the Phoenix-based Opus West’s Houston team. In addition to the free space, additional non-tangible donations included legal services for the lease arrangement and an electrical retrofit to meet the Salvation Army’s requirements.
