COPT took on the role of financier for the CASL building, which was designed by Grimm & Parker Architects, while Manekin handled construction. CASL, an entity established by the US Department of Defense, is leasing the space form the M Square team; however, the terms of the lease agreement, handled by the Michaels Co., have not been disclosed.
The M Square property is adjacent to the university campus and just steps from a Metro Station. The research park will also eventually be home to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's National Center for Weather and Climate Prediction, which has a 235,000-sf facility in the works. "The opening of the Advanced Language Center and the development of M-Square are no coincidence," Jack Johnson, Prince George's County executive, says in a statement. "It is happening throughout the county. All of these projects are indicators that Prince George's County is 'on the move, 'forward looking and a well-rounded livable community."
