Demetri Koutrouvelis and Laurent Myers of Studley represented Vanda. Representing the ownership were Bernie McCarthy and Morgan Sullivan of Spaulding & Slye Colliers, which developed the building in conjunction with New Boston Fund Inc. in 2004 at a cost of about $20 million.
Known as Building III, 9605 Medical Center Dr. is a three-story, class A facility right off I-270 near the Shady Grove Adventist Hospital. The structure is part of the university's planned 35-acre research campus that will ultimately consist of seven buildings with 900,000 sf. In addition to Johns Hopkins, the Centers for Behavioral Health is also a tenant in Building III, as is the Chesapeake Cytometry Consortium and CBH Research.
"Residing on the Johns Hopkins campus enables us to place our scientists practically side by side with some of the top academic research teams in the world," says Vanda chief business officer Chip Clark. With Vanda's lease, which is expandable by an additional 17,000 sf, 22,000 sf of space remain vacant in Building III.
