City Set to Acquire Defunct Fred Meyer Site

GRESHAM, OR-With the necessary approvals in place, this city's urban renewal commission should close this month on a 6.1-acre site that holds a former Fred Meyer department store that shut down in 2003.

GRESHAM, OR-The City of Gresham Redevelopment Commission will close this month on its $8.1-million purchase of a 6.1-acre former Fred Meyer department store site. The acquisition is the commission’s first within the Rockwood-West Gresham urban renewal area, which was approved by voters in 2003 in an effort to reinvigorate the area.

The Commission voted last week to authorize the purchase after determining that there were no environmental problems with the site. The seller is Eflow Investment Trust. Urban renewal manager Rebecca Ocken tells GlobeSt.com the sale is expected to close by November 15.

In addition to being the first purchase in the urban renewal area, Ocken says the property is also the largest redevelopment parcel in the Rockwood Town Center area. Surrounding the site are a variety of uses, including single family homes, apartments, a lumber yard and other commercial uses, as well as other vacant parcels.
