BALTIMORE-The $17 million rehabilitation of sister properties Clay Courts and Lester Morton Court--two subsidized rental housing communities at 1611 E. Chase St. and 1523 Lester Morton Ct.--has reached completion. Spearheading the renovations to the total 214 units was the properties' owner San Diego-headquartered Hampstead Partners.
Hampstead concentrates its work on the preservation and repositioning of low-income properties subsidized by the US Department of Housing and Urban Development. The upgrade process included interior and exterior improvement to the properties, as well as the reconfiguration of 22 units--15 at Clay Courts and seven at Lester Morton--into wheelchair accessible residences.
Clay Courts and Lester Morton, containing 144 and 70 units, respectively, are located within three blocks of each in East Baltimore, near Johns Hopkins Hospital. In addition to federal and local organizations, the state contributed $5 million to the rehabilitation endeavor and Bank of America provided $7.4 million for the project.
