Base Realignment and Closure Act
The firm's five-year contract with the Navy involves preparing reports on each of the installations targeted for closing or consolidation. That report will include a strategy for each property, including potential sales prospects.
In addition to the Army and Air Force, Jones Lang LaSalle's assignments have included assignments for the US government's General Services Administration and District of Columbia. "Jones Lang LaSalle has a strong track record of success in assisting government entities on complex real estate assignments," says Kevin Wayer, director of Jones Lang LaSalle's public institutions group.
Locally, the Navy's Great Lakes Naval Training Center in North Chicago was spared closure, but more than 2,000 jobs are expected to be cut there. The base is the area's largest employer, ahead of nearby Abbott Laboratories. A Navy Reserve center in Forest Park will be closed.
The Army's base closings cost nearby Fort Sheridan, which also enjoys frontage on Lake Michigan. The base, located between North Shore suburbs Highwood and Lake Forest, already is being redeveloped for residential use.
