Executive Watch

Perspective

Jonathan A. Schein - President & CEO - Real Estate Media - GlobeSt.com11/1/05: Meg Whitman, CEO of eBay, has been ranked 2005′s most powerful woman in business by Fortune magazine. This is an incredible accomplishment by an incredible business leader. Sometimes, when we’re knee deep in our own respective industries, it’s hard to see outside of ourselves. We all know the breadth of eBay’s reach and how much of an impact it has had on the trading of goods through its auction services. This week, EBay’s market capitalization hovers at around $55 billion. To keep this all in perspective, according to Nareit, there are 23 publicly traded office REITs with a total market cap of $56 billion. That really sends the message home that, although there is much to be said about value that REITs bring to the economy, it’s a small universe compared to the rest of the marketplace.
