The Van Strand Group will demolish retail and warehouse buildings totaling 72,051 sf and five single-family homes. The project also includes development of five vacant lots. River Street Plaza will include 80,000 sf of retail space, with restaurants among targeted users, in addition to 170 condominiums. The development site is a block south of land where Waubonsee Community College plans to build a downtown campus.

The first phase of the project includes a pair of four-story buildings. Construction is expected to begin next spring, pending city approval. The assemblage was handled by Steve Stephens of Stephens Commercial Real Estate.
