SAN DIEGO, CA-St. Louis-based McCarthy Building Cos. has opened an office in Governor Park to accommodate the company’s growing base of business in San Diego County. The firm is currently juggling four major development projects in the area, including the 250,000-sf Children’s Hospital and Health Center’s Acute Care Pavilion. McCarthy is providing general contracting and construction management services for the children’s hospital, which is scheduled to break ground in the fall of 2007, with completion in late 2009. The five-story parcel will include 16 operating rooms and recovery units, neo-natal, intensive care, and cardiology intensive care units, as well as an inpatient and outpatient hematology and oncology center. The firm’s other projects include a 39,600-sf add-on to the University of San Diego’s Biomedical Library and a 110,000-sf Student Academic Services building. The projects costs are pegged at $16 million and $30 million, respectively.McCarthy is no stranger to the San Diego market, having worked on approximately $500 million in projects around the county for the past 23 years. Among its most notable developments have been the Salk Institute for Biological Studies and the Rebecca and John Moores Cancer Center for the University of California. The firm’s fourth project in the county is a $7.2 million, 148,943-sf parking structure with 388 parking spaces that is part of the North Park redevelopment effort. Completion is expected next month. Ron Hall, who has been with McCarthy for 17 years, will oversee the new office, located at 6165 Greenwich Dr., off the I-805 in Governor Park. “We have a great foundation for starting the San Diego office including a solid current backlog of projects in the area,” Hall tells Globest.com.
