Egis Certified provides LEED project management, documentation consulting and building commissioning. Its LEED 2.1 accredited professionals work alongside the development team in order to facilitate LEED certification. Egis Real Estate Services provides property management and engineering services.
The division's first big assignment is Vulcan's four-building Alley 24 project, which consists of two apartment buildings holding a combined 172 units and two office buildings holding 185,000 sf of office space and street-level retail. The "green" development will feature more natural daylight than traditional buildings, energy and water saving fixtures and environmentally sensitive building materials. The boundaries of the project are John and Thomas streets and Yale and Pontius avenues. The property address is 223 Yale.
Egis Certified's business developer and co-founder Brian Moore says his company specializes in maximizing LEED points before, during and after the course of a building's construction. The points--the rating system designated by the United States Green Building Council--determine a building's level of sustainability: Silver, Gold or Platinum.
Egis Certified will handle the necessary paperwork for the LEED certification and building commissioning for all four buildings. It also will handle LEED certification for the office space build out for both Skanska USA Building and the architecture firm NBBJ, two members of the development team that will relocate to the 362,000-sf project upon its completion next year.
"Not many people want to roll up their sleeves and dig into the masses of LEED paperwork and also handle commissioning at the same time – but that's what we do for a living…," says Moore.
