The building will rise on a 0.83 acre parcel at the corner of Fayetteville, Martin and Wilmington streets. It will stand approximately 400 feet tall and will encompass more than 710,000 sf of space on 25,000-sf floor plates. Components will include RBC Centura's corporate offices on five floors; an RBC Centura branch bank, along with other retail; a seven-level parking deck; five floors of for-lease office space; and approximately 140 residential condominiums.

The bank's retail branch will occupy 4,000 sf on the first floor, along with another 10,000 sf of retail space. Parking will occupy floors 2 through 8. The bank's headquarters will be located on floors 9 through 12 plus the 18th floor, for a total of 126,000 sf. Another 140,000 sf of for-lease office space will be located on floors 13 through 17. The residential condominiums will be on floors 19 through 29.

The building facade will be stone and glass on the first floor, transitioning to architectural pre-cast concrete and glass above. Starting at the first condominium level, the building skin becomes floor-to-ceiling glass.

RBC Centura considered several development proposals for its headquarters complex before selecting Highwoods to undertake and manage the project. Highwoods will serve as the master developer, Dominion Realty Partners as the residential developer and Cooper Carry as the architect for the building.

RBC Centura is a US subsidiary of Royal Bank of Canada. It has $20 billion in assets, more than 3,600 employees and 273 banking centers in North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Georgia and Florida. Approximately 300 employees currently work in Raleigh, and the bank expects that number to grow to approximately 500 workers by 2009.
