SAN DIEGO-The Hard Rock Hotel San Diego has taken another step toward becoming a reality. While construction on the 315,000-sf hotel could run through next summer, a sales center opened this week.The 4,700-sf center, which is located at 345 Sixth Ave., features a DJ booth, a conference room and Elvis Presley memorabilia. The space sits on the first floor of a renovated two-story warehouse building. Also at the site are a reception area, hospitality lounge, a scale model of the hotel and two model rooms.Jason Dolker, a sales associate with Hard Rock Hotels, says the project calls for 420 suites–although other estimates have the number of suites at 393. “We don’t know how many will be released for ownership” and how many will be regular hotel rooms, Dolker tells Globest.com.He says the rooms will start in the $400,000s and will range in size from 320 sf up to 1,500 sf. “All of the rooms will come furnished,” Dolker adds.In all, the hotel will encompass two 12-story towers. The project includes a four-level podium housing guest services, a bar/restaurant, retail spaces, dining room, spa and health club and more than 20,000 sf of conference space.Other features include a rooftop garden with “an exclusive rooftop bar/club,” according to Graham Downes, whose design firm, Graham Downes Architecture, is providing architectural and interior design services for the project.Hotel developer 5th Rock LLC, managed by Tarsadia Hotels, retained Graham Downes Architecture for the project. “With the Hard Rock, we are setting the stage for a completely different hotel experience,” says Downes. “It’s not going to be like walking into any other four-star luxury hotel. It will be more of an event–always happening, every day, all day.”
