Pennsylvania has authorized a total of 14 gaming licenses across the state, including seven for horseracing tracks, two for resort developments and five for stand-alone slot parlors. Wednesday was the deadline for submitting license applications. Trump, Boyd, Aztar, Forest City and Harrah's are some of the companies vying for the licenses, according to published reports. A complete list of applicants is expected to be released next week.

The gaming board isn't expected to begin awarding licenses until mid-2006, starting with the licenses for racetracks. Gambling is expected to begin in late 2006 or 2007.

Neither Forest City nor Harrah's have said when their formal application will be followed by a development plan, only that one is in the works. Other applicants for licenses in other Pennsylvania cities have detailed their plans.
