DUBLIN, CA-Hundreds more condominiums are coming to this side of the Dublin/Pleasanton Bay Area Rapid Transit station. The Dublin City Council last week approved the 300-unit Metropolitan development by publicly held D.R. Horton.

The project, which required a partial rezone from an office campus designation, is Horton's second fronting Dublin Boulevard between DeMarcus Boulevard and Arnold Road. The first is Elan, a 257-unit project approved by the council last year and currently under construction. A Horton executive could not be reached Tuesday for comment on presales.

The projects are within Dublin's transit village, which is zoned for high-density housing, restaurants, retail and campus office space within walking distance of BART. The hope is that residents and workers will take BART instead of their cars.

In addition to the for sale units, some 420 apartment units in two different projects also are planned for the transit village. One of the units will be for low-income residents. All told, 974 units of housing have been approved for construction in the area, along with 1.7 million sf of campus office space.

The plan for the transit village dates back to 2000, when the city began changing zoning in the area from predominantly industrial with low-density requirements to higher densities allowing for residential and commercial buildings up to eight stories in order to block views of a freeway fly-over.
