"We are delighted to be adding a third property in Colorado on the heels of our successful ventures in Bachelor Gulch in Beaver Creek and Aspen Highlands," says Simon Cooper, president and COO of the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Co.
Ritz-Carlton will not have an equity stake in the hotel. Rather, it is owned by a partnership led by Charlie Biederman, Steve Roitman and Jim Cobb. "The Ritz-Carlton Denver will achieve a level of luxury that has not been seen before in Denver," Biederman says. "The hotel will put Denver on the map as a first-tier destination for business and leisure travelers." Biederman also is an owner of the JW Marriott Denver in Cherry Creek. The Ritz-Carlton team includes Pahl-Pahl-Pahl PC, a locally based architecture firm; Texeira Interior Architecture & Design, based in Los Angeles; and the Denver office of M.A. Mortenson Co.
The Ritz-Carlton will be on the first 14 floors of the building, with 13,000 sf of meeting space including a new business center, lobby lounge and 6,500-sf ballroom. The guest rooms will average more than 500 sf, making them the largest in Denver, Biederman says. Room rates will not be set until the hotel's opening, but they will be the most expensive in the city, he says.
The Residences also will be at the top of the market, on a sf basis, Biederman notes. They will range in size from 2,000 sf to 4,500 sf. Tami Door, president of the Downtown Denver Partnership, says she is "thrilled" that the Ritz is coming to the Central Business District.
"The addition of this new luxury hotel is timed perfectly," Door says. "Downtown Denver continues to develop into a cultural destination. As we promote this image of class and stature, we must continue to provide accommodations which are natural complements."
