$112M Hospital Expansion Begins Soon

GLEN BURNIE, MD-Construction is poised to get under way on the development of the $112-million expansion of the Baltimore Washington Medical Center. When all is said and done, the hospital will have a new 111-bed patient tower and a larger emergency department.

GLEN BURNIE, MD-The expansion of Baltimore Washington Medical Center edges closer toward realization as construction on the $112-million expansion endeavor will soon get under way. Whiting-Turner Contracting Co. is at the helm of the construction activity at campus of the four-decade-old hospital. BWMC, which changed its name from North Arundel Hospital last summer, is presently a 278-bed community medical facility.

The expansion project involves three facets, the main segment of which is the six-story patient tower designed by the architectural firm of Cannon Design. It will consist of 111 beds and will sit behind an existing parking structure. The project will also introduce an obstetrics unit, as well as a 15,000-sf expansion of the seven-year-old emergency department that will account for $13 million of the development cost.
