The new Borders store at the West End Retail Park will also include a Paperchase shop, which features notebooks, albums, gift wrap, greeting cards and other gift and stationery items, as well as a Starbucks Coffee store.
The company did not outline its specific expansion plans in Ireland, other than to say in a statement that it planned several units. Borders was unavailable for comment.
Currently, the chain operates more than 50 Borders superstores outside the US, as well as 33 Books etc. stores throughout Great Britain. In the US, the chain operates 475 Borders superstores and approximately 600 Waldenbooks stores.
The Ireland expansion comes on the heels of disappointing fourth-quarter earnings results for Borders. Profit declined to $119.1 million, or $1.78 a share, in the quarter, compared with $122.8 million, or $1.62 a share, a year ago. On the plus side, international segment revenue was up 10% to $203.7 million.
