Knobel's firm, Crossroads East One LLC, plans a development that will include a public plaza, ice skating rink, bowling alley, a three-screen movie theater, public art, retail and restaurants. It will include 69 lodging/residential units, six fewer than were proposed a year ago. That reduces the number of units by six from a year ago, and 10,000 sf less of residential space.

Knobel, bowing to opposition, also reduced the building height on the east and west wings of the buildings. At its peak, the new building proposed by Knobel would rise to nearly 100 feet. The building mass and height is concentrated along South Frontage Road. Knobel calls the new structure, tall for Vail, a "world-class structure." The plan also calls for improvements to the intersections of Meadow Drive and Village Center Road; Meadow Drive and Willow Bridge Road; and at South Frontage Road.

Crossroads also will provide 338 sub-surface parking spaces in a town that in a town that is often short on parking. That is 103 more than required, although some opponents contend it still isn't enough. It will be a high-tech parking garage. "Computer monitoring will tell us what parking spaces are in use and when they are in use," Nobel says. "It is our intent to get full use of the parking at all times by occupying it as efficiently as possible." Crossroads also will provide the town with deed-restricted employee housing for 12 people, which is double the requirement.
