The Ameristar Casino Black Hawk, at Highway 199 and Richman Street, formerly was called the Mountain High Casino. Ameristar expanded the parking, refurbished the dining areas, added additional gaming slots and established a "Star Club" for top players. Black Hawk is one of three mountain communities in Colorado where limited stakes gambling is allowed. Black Hawk is west of Golden.
The hotel will include Black Hawk's only swimming pool and indoor and outdoor spas. Next to the spa will be a 1,000-sf fitness center. It also will include a meeting center with a main ballroom, junior ballroom, breakout rooms, pre-function space, a business center and a boardroom. The main ballroom will not only cater to businesses and company meetings. It can be converted into an event center for special entertainment, such as boxing matches.
"With sweeping views of the surrounding vistas and luxurious accommodations, this hotel project will bring a four-diamond–quality resort destination to Black Hawk that will be an exceptional addition to the leisure opportunities in the Denver metropolitan area," says Craig H. Neilsen, president and CEO of Ameristar.
The company bought the property in December 2004. The hotel itself will cost $180 million, while the land, casino and the casino renovation amounts to $200 million. Neilsen unveiled upgrades to the casino, which include: a 10-story, 1,550-space garage that is next to an additional 650-car valet service lot; an expanded two-story casino with almost 1,600 slots and 25 table games, including poker; the Timberline Grill steakhouse and a renovated Centennial Buffet; and new Merk & Tyler retail stores offering Ameristar logo merchandise, collectables, jewelry, apparel and other gifts.
