WASHINGTON, DC-The 90,000-sf retail segment of the mixed-use Cityline at Tenley is leased to maximum capacity now that Tenleytown Hardware has committed to the last remaining 12,000 sf at the mixed-use locale. Newmark Knight Frank represented the tenant in the lease agreement with property owner and developer Roadside Development. Further details of the lease were not disclosed.
Located at 4500 Wisconsin Ave., Cityline began as a Sears department store in the early 1940s and became a Hechinger home store in the mid-1990s; Roadside took over the property and redeveloped it four years ago. Now the historic building contains retail space, 200 luxury condominium residences and more than 200 parking spaces.
The placement of Tenleytown Hardware's name on the tenant roster alongside Best Buy and Container Store was not random. "There were numerous conversations with multiple stores until we found just the right mix," says Armond Spikell, partner at Roadside Development. The developers of Cityline worked closely with area residents in putting together the Cityline project and it became clear that there was a dire need for a hardware store in the community. Spikell adds that the developers wanted to honor their commitment to provide services that "met the need and tenure of the neighborhood."
