The stadium will be erected on a 26-acre site along the Anacostia Waterfront, about one mile from the US Capitol. A joint venture team consisting of HOK Sport and Devrouax & Purnell Architects is behind the design of the park, which will feature additional offerings including 30,000 sf of team administration office space, a 10,000-sf restaurant and a 6,000-sf conference center.

Demolition activity has already begun at the stadium locale and construction, which is being handled by a joint venture involving Clark Construction, Hunt Construction Group and Smoot Construction, is on schedule to get under way within the next 10 days. City officials, project participants and the team's new owner--a group headed by the founder of the Bethesda, MD-based Lerner Enterprises, Theodore N. Lerner--were in attendance at the groundbreaking. The stadium is due to open for the 2008 baseball season.
