The stadium will be erected on a 26-acre site along theAnacostia Waterfront, about one mile from the US Capitol. A jointventure team consisting of HOK Sport and Devrouax & PurnellArchitects is behind the design of the park, which will featureadditional offerings including 30,000 sf of team administrationoffice space, a 10,000-sf restaurant and a 6,000-sf conferencecenter.

Demolition activity has already begun at the stadium locale andconstruction, which is being handled by a joint venture involvingClark Construction, Hunt Construction Group and Smoot Construction,is on schedule to get under way within the next 10 days. Cityofficials, project participants and the team's new owner--a groupheaded by the founder of the Bethesda, MD-based Lerner Enterprises,Theodore N. Lerner--were in attendance at the groundbreaking. Thestadium is due to open for the 2008 baseball season.
