Ground Breaks on $611M Ballpark

WASHINGTON, DC-Ground breaks on the 41,000-seat baseball stadium for the Washington Nationals. The $611-million project is on schedule to reach completion in 2008.

WASHINGTON, DC-Work has begun for the Washington Nationals’ new baseball stadium. The 41,000-seat sports arena, under development for the city by the DC Sports & Entertainment Commission, carries a development price tag of $611 million. It is being financed through revenue bonds–$535 million of which were issued yesterday.

The stadium will be erected on a 26-acre site along the Anacostia Waterfront, about one mile from the US Capitol. A joint venture team consisting of HOK Sport and Devrouax & Purnell Architects is behind the design of the park, which will feature additional offerings including 30,000 sf of team administration office space, a 10,000-sf restaurant and a 6,000-sf conference center.
