Matt Nix, senior real estate director for Opus North, tells GlobeSt.com that the land was origninally zoned for 600,000 sf of office space, but the use lacked feasability for the area. Instead, Opus approached the Village with the concept of a lifestyle center. Through several discussions, the plan evolved into a town center.

"The village revised its comprehensive plan, and their desires and objectives matched nicely with what we wanted to do," Nix says. "Getting public input and encouragement from the plan commission and Village board really challenged us to create a great plan."

Thus far, committed retailers include Ann Taylor Loft, J. Jill, Chico's, and Chico's most recent concepts, Soma and White House/Black Market. There will also be three buildings included a total of 172 residential lofts and condos. Nix says prices for the residential units will range from $300,000 to $600,000. The development will also include approximately 33,000 sf of office-condo space.

Marketing agents representing Opus North include the Pollard Group Ltd. for retail leasing, CB Richard Ellis for office sales and Edward R. James Realty for residential sales. Burr Ridge Village Center is collaboration between RTKL Architects and Opus Architects & Engineers and will be built by Opus North Corp. Construction will commence with the official groundbreaking on Thursday, and the grand opening of the retail stores is scheduled for fall of 2007.
