The Latest Openings; Insightful Commentary

With this issue, I am pleased to assume the position of editorialist for Executive Watch, and in the weeks and months ahead, I look forward to sharing with you our insights and perspectives on management and human capital issues facing the real estate industry. Last week I attended the ULI Spring Conference in Salt Lake City. The Spring Meeting attracts ULI’s most senior members, and what better place than this assembly of executives from every sector and across every function to take a pulse on the market. Overall, the mood was positive, and the general view among attendees is that there is plenty of runway left in this market cycle. This positive view wasn’t surprising because on the recruiting front we have seen extraordinary activity across the board, especially since January. Recruiting patterns and levels are a leading indicator for the direction of the market, and current activity implies significant management confidence for the next two to three years. We’ll keep our eye on this however, because moods can change quickly.
