ATLANTA-Construction has begun on Park View at Coventry Station, a 166-unit affordable senior housing community located on a 5.75-acre site at 3381 Greenbriar Parkway. The project is expected to be completed in June 2007.
Baltimore-based Shelter Group is the developer of the complex and Rosemont, IL-based McShane Construction Corp. is handling the construction. Architects on the project are locally based Martin Riley Associates Architects, PC. Sheri Tantari, McShane's senior vice president-marketing, tells GlobeSt.com that this is the first time McShane has worked with the Shelter Group. Although the company has built other mixed-income senior projects, this is the first affordable project for the community. "But it's not a matter of how we build it. It's a matter of determining who is eligible to live there," Tantari says.
Park View at Coventry Station is part of a 138-acre mixed-use development by master planner Priske-Jones Southeast Co. featuring single- and multifamily housing, retail and office space. Work on other aspects of the development is being done concurrently with the senior housing project. "We're just one part of what will become a mini-community," Tantari says.
The four-story complex will include 66 one-bedroom units and 100 two-bedroom units. Units will feature fully equipped kitchens, enhanced safety features and handicapped accessibility. Amenities include a movie theater, community center, meeting space, computer center, fitness center and salon.
The Shelter Group specializes in multifamily and senior living rental communities. Park View communities are priced for seniors who do not qualify for housing subsidies but cannot afford market-rate senior housing. The company also manages Park View complexes in Maryland and Pennsylvania.
