The joint venture of Clayco Construction Co. and Legacy Building Group LLC is building the $60-million gaming facility, which will include two levels designed by Kuhlman Design Group of St. Louis in a southwestern theme.

The gaming complex will replace the existing Casino Queen that is moored along the eastern shore of the Mississippi River, and will encompass 10,000 sf of additional gaming space. The total area for gaming will measure 38,000 sf, and the entire layout will include a buffet restaurant, a casual café, a steakhouse, a VIP lounge and a stage bar.

Ryan Taylor, project manager for Clayco, says the transformation will turn the Casino Queen from a riverboat casino into a land-based facility with a floating casino floor. "To achieve a moat affect, we are going to excavate the gaming area, almost as if we were building a large swimming pool," he explains. "We will then create a unique building platform for the gaming area. When the casino is completed and water is added to the 'pool,' the final effect is a floating casino."
