NEW YORK CITY-Hotelier Jonathan Tisch advised a group of hotel industry executives to take a more active role in the governmental process. “There is serious debate going on in DC,” he told attendees of New York Universities’ Hospitality Industry Conference. “We have a responsibility to contribute to policy debates. We need to act as ambassadors on the front line. We have no choice.”

The chairman and CEO of Loew’s Hotels and co-chairman of the board and office of the president, Loews Corp., said immigration legislation and attracting international tourism are two key issues affecting the industry right now. “There have been countless meetings with policy makers. Cabinet officers are listening to us. We need to have a free flow of commerce and to help diminish the view of fortress America.”
