"We have considerable room to grow our business throughout the US," said Thomas Baldwin, chairman and CEO of Chicago-based Morton's. "We have considerable room to grow throughout the Midwest, the Northeast, Florida and California."

"We will have an opportunity to grow in Asia, and will seize that opportunity in 2007," Baldwin said. The company is looking throughout major cities on the continent, though it has not determined the number of restaurants it will open.

As of June 1, the company owned and operated 70 Morton's Steakhouses located in 61 cities in the US, as well as four international locations (Toronto, Vancouver, Singapore and Hong Kong). The chain also has four Bertolini's Authentic Trattoria restaurants in the US. The company also is expanding the Bertolini's in Las Vegas.

A new restaurant in Troy, Mich., has already opened this year. Five more Morton's restaurants will open through the end of the year in Northbrook, Ill., Houston, Anaheim, Calif., San Jose, Calif., and Coral Gables, Fla. Four to six restaurants will be renovated this year, as well.

The company also plans to retrofit existing units to include its Bar 1221 "high-energy" bar environment. By year-end, 19 restaurants will have the redesigned bar area.
