JERSEY CITY-Northern Trust Co. has subleased 25,800 sf of office space from American Financial Realty Trust at Harborside Plaza 10. The investment services company will relocate 65 employees from Manhattan to its new space around September, and will have the space for the next 15 years.

"We selected Plaza 10 for its state-of-the-art technology and open floor plates as well as expansive views of the Hudson River and the Manhattan skyline," says James R. Taylor, vice president of corporate real estate for Northern Trust. "In addition, the building's amenities and modern design provided the exact image we wanted to project to our clientele."

Northern Trust has about 70% of the 14th floor of the 18-story Harborside 10. The firm has the right to first offer on the remaining 9,184 sf on the floor.

AFR was represented by a Jones Lang LaSalle team that included Frank Doyle, Cynthia Wasserberger, John Meisel, Tom Reilly, Sam Buckley and Jay Lapham. Northern Trust was represented by Augustus B. Field IV of Cushman & Wakefield.

AFR also has recently signed a 3,000 sf retail lease with Amazon Café for ground floor space. The Philadelphia-based restaurant sells smoothies, sandwiches and snacks. Glenn Beyer of Metro Commercial repped AFR in the retail lease, and Melanie E. Sticker of Legends Properties presented Amazon Café. In March, AFR signed Citco Fund Services to 70,000 sf of space at Harborside Plaza 10, also for 15 years.
