EMERYVILLE, CA-Madison Marquette has landed Sweden-based discount fashion retailer H&M for its 400,000-sf Bay Street shopping center here that opened in 2002. H&M expects to open the store in Spring 2007.
H&M will occupy 12,600 sf bordering Bay Street's 16-screen AMC movie theater, which will put it very near Ikea, another Sweden-based retailer. H&M currently has two locations up and running at Union Square in San Francisco and has three other Bay Area locations in the works, including Westfield San Francisco Centre and Sun Valley Mall in Concord.
Bay Street comprises three city blocks just off I-80 at Bay and Shellmound streets. The center has about 60 shops, restaurants and specialty stores. Newer tenants include Elephant Bar Restaurant and EQ3 Furniture and Accents. Well-known tenants include Old Navy, Williams-Sonoma, Abercrombie & Fitch, Banana Republic, Body Shop and Apple.
Madison Marquette and Blackrock Realty spent $167 million developing Bay Street, which opened in late 2002 with 360,000 sf of retail. MacFarlane Partners recently added 380 units of housing, including 284 apartments. A mid-rise hotel is planned.
