BOSTON-The Boston Red Sox are considering a land lease on a two-acre parcel on Boylston Street that could lead to the team gaining control over a block of property near Fenway Park.

A team spokesman confirmed for GlobeSt.com that the team has been talking with members of the Swan family, which owns the parcel next to the Kenmore Square Howard Johnson's Hotel, but no agreement has yet been hammered out. The property currently contains a commercial building and a parking lot.

The negotiations are just one of several development deals the Red Sox have been working on in the last few years. The team is also planning a deal with a local developer to construct a low-rise mixed use project over the nearby Massachusetts Turnpike. The Sox also want to establish three restaurants in team-owned buildings in the next three years as part of a plan to turn the area into a year-round destination spot.
